ABOUT ME

photo-7When I was in sixth grade I wore big red glasses. They were not cute (no matter what my mom says). After I got the glasses I immediately regretted getting them. I had an image in my head of how cool I would look in those glasses – but I could never pull it off. I tried to match my outfits to my red glasses for the year that I had them.  I was SUCH a nerd. I still am.

I am a Detroit girl who moved to San Diego with my husband, Sean, about ten years ago. We have a one-of-kind dog, Ruby. She truly is super special. I read, cook animal-free, do a lot of yoga, take lots of walks, go to farmer’s markets, watch movies, explore new restaurants, hug my husband, snuggle my dog and obsess over my nieces and nephews. I have a job at a university where I manage grants and programs, and I miss the creativity that I had when I pursued my MA in English over 20 years ago.  All of the above is what this blog is about.

I love the idea that you never know how your words and actions will touch others that you encounter. A chance conversation can change someone’s life forever. The books and blogs we read, meals we eat, and people we engage with all form the person that we become. With all of this in mind, I try to live with compassion, courage, and honesty.  And because I am so opinionated I give out a lot of advice.

Thanks for visiting My Big Red Glasses blog.  I hope you find things on here that speak to you.

  1. I love this, Laura. I’m so excited to read it! It makes me feel like I haven’t missed so many years of your life! Xo

  2. Just discovered your blog and I’ve only read the last couple posts but I must say we are kindred spirits. I grew up in Chicago and made my way to San Diego about 2 years ago by way of Arizona where I completed my undergrad. I studied creative writing (fiction) at ASU and I’m itching to get my MFA. Cheers to us write-brained folks 🙂
